Improve Operational Effectiveness and UVM Programs
Workload studies are comprised of observations of daily operations and work performed by utility line clearance contractors. In addition to evaluating quality of work, a crew's quantity of work and efficiencies in executing it are examined. Recommendations are then made to the utility for next steps based on what is required of the vegetation management program.
Program Review

Crew Performance Evaluations
Crew performance evaluations, often performed anonymously, review day-to-day production and efficiencies of workers who clear vegetation along rights-of-way. Crews are inspected for adherence to industry best practices and ANSI safety standards such as proper cuts, effective trimming techniques and vehicle use and parking.

Hazard Tree Assessment
A hazard tree assessment is completed by a trained forester, who inspects vegetation near power lines and identifies danger trees that may potentially fall into the lines, impacting reliability and safety. To help a utility client properly plan and budget, a hazard tree assessment identifies the most urgent and appropriate removals to decrease tree-related interruptions of service.

Program Review
A program review is often developed in conjunction with a workload study. Utility arborists and forestry experts review historical data and determine efficiencies and needed improvements with trimming and removals, as well as additional operational components of the vegetation management program.
Additionally, foresters give recommendations for steps that can improve efficiencies, based on budgets and objectives determined in UVM plans, with an overall goal to increase reliability.

Crew Performance Evaluations
Evaluations of tree crews assess a utility’s investment and ensure workers operate efficiently and safely as they strive to meet reliability and production goals. DRG performs the evaluations by diligently noting observations in the field, then producing a report with findings and recommendations.

Hazard Tree Assessments
DRG performs assessments through such steps as LIDAR and aerial inspections, primarily along transmission rights-of-way. Then, to confirm suspected danger trees, utility foresters complete ground patrols and tree inspections.
In addition to DRG’s expert foresters and arborists, we can enhance these tasks with Davey’s proprietary data collection software, Rover, which is customized to a utility’s system to best meet their needs. Rover provides such benefits as paperless workflow, customized reporting and on-demand data.
